I never fully understood how K-Cups worked until I got my own machine. Each little pod is basically a small packet of coffee grounds. The machine pokes a hole in the top and bottom of the packet that the water drips through, just like a mini version of a big coffee maker. The small serving size and ease of clean-up makes for the perfect cup with no hassle. We even take our machine camping sometimes!
Coffee contains ingredients that both lower your blood sugar and increase your resting metabolic rate, reducing your risk for diabetes. Additionally, nutrients in coffee help your body use insulin, a hormone necessary to use and store sugar you get from food. Substantial coffee drinkers, of either regular or decaffeinated coffee, could be half as likely to develop diabetes than those who drink little to no coffee. The association between coffee intake and diabetes proposes that each cup of coffee you drink per day, could result in a 7 percent reduction in your risk for developing diabetes.
Moka coffee is coffee brewed with a moka pot, a stovetop coffee maker which produces coffee by passing hot water pressurized by steam through ground coffee at a lower pressure than an espresso maker. The moka pot is an Italian invention, first produced by Bialetti in the early 1930s. The flavor of moka pot coffee depends greatly on bean variety, roast level, fineness of grind, and the level of heat used. Due to the higher-than-atmospheric pressure involved, the mixture of water and steam reaches temperatures well above 100 °C, causing a more efficient extraction of caffeine and flavors from the grounds, and resulting in a stronger brew than that obtained by drip brewing.[citation needed]
To make an espresso, shoot boiling water under high pressure through finely ground up coffee beans and then pour into a tiny mug. Sounds simple right? Well, it’s surprisingly difficult to master. Espressos are the purest coffee experience you can get, and while they’re not for everyone, it can be a truly singular drinking experience when you find a good brew.
Try different brewing methods and recipes- It is possible that part of the reason you feel your coffee needs cream or sugar is the way you are brewing it. You may need to adjust your dosage, grind size or pick a new brewing method altogether. I recommend going to a coffee shop that is known for its slow bar and talking to the barista about what they recommend based on your preferences. They can not only help you find a coffee you like, they should also be able to represent that coffee to you brewed properly so you can experience the coffee as intended.

According to the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) there is an ideal method for making coffee, called the Golden Cup Award, which will scientifically yield favorable and repeatable results. You should use between 3.25 and 4.25 ounces of coffee grounds per 64 ounces of water (90-120 grams of coffee to 1.9 liters of water). The water temperature must be at 200 degrees Fahrenheit (+ or - 2; that's equivalent to 93 Celcius) when it comes in contact with the grounds. Lastly, the total dissolved solids (TDS) measured in any given brew tastes best to most people when it falls between 1.15 and 1.35 percent.

Instant coffee is a drink derived from brewed coffee beans. Through various manufacturing processes the coffee is dehydrated into the form of powder or granules. These can be rehydrated with hot water to provide a drink similar (though not identical) to conventional coffee. At least one brand of instant coffee, "Camp Coffee," is also available in concentrated liquid form.

On the other end of the spectrum, third wave coffee roasters spend hours cupping, roasting and developing roast profiles to get the most out of a green coffee that was often meticulously grown, harvested and processed. It may come as a surprise to you but the taste of coffee can vary considerably farm to farm and region to region. Drinking your coffee black helps you to appreciate and enjoy these differences.
Some health benefits of coffee come from the beverage's caffeine content and not necessarily from the coffee itself. For example, the review of studies published in Australian & New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry determined there was also a nonlinear association between caffeine and a lower risk of depression, in addition to the link with coffee itself. Caffeine, a stimulant, also has a beneficial effect on athletic performance, with research published in 2016 in the Journal of Sports Science determining that dosing with caffeine prior to physical activity increased "vigor" and decreased fatigue. To use this to your benefit before working out, drink a cup of black coffee about 30 to 45 minutes before you begin exercising.
