My mom's been a long-time lover of coffee. I can still remember her sending me up to the counter for her usual when I was a kid. “Double-tall nonfat extra hot latte with extra foam, no whip.” We lived in the coffee-loving city of Seattle before coffee was uber chic, and I like to think I inherited some of my mom's refined cafe preferences. But the fact remains that at 20-something years old, I still hadn't figured out how to make black coffee that didn't taste like mud to me. So I snooped around her kitchen when we were up to visit last weekend to see how she does it. “What's this coffee brand on your counter, mom? Gevalia?”

A coffee percolator is a type of pot used to brew coffee by continually cycling the boiling or nearly-boiling brew through the grounds using gravity until the required strength is reached. There are stove-top percolators and standalone units which contain a built-in heating element. Percolators were popular until the 1970s, when they were widely replaced by drip coffee makers. By the mid-1970s, many companies ceased production of percolators.[citation needed]
Generally the best type of coffee to use in order to make a great tasting cup of black coffee is that which has been freshly ground. The reason why freshly ground is better is because after a couple of days ground coffee generally begins to lose its taste. Also if you are going to make coffee on your stove top then only keep it on there for a few minutes as any longer and the coffee will lose some of its taste and in some cases will become bitter. So it is better if you serve the coffee as soon as you have made it. Also you should use about 2 tablespoons of ground coffee for every cup that you make expect in the case of espresso. If making an espresso it is best to follow the guidelines that your espresso machine will have.
10 years ago I stopped using sugar, I found it took a long time to get used to the taste of my coffee without sugar and I was expecting it to be the same trying to switch to black coffee. I know it’s only my first cup of black coffee but I actually like it more than I do with milk. So much so that I was motivated to leave this post. More simple, much better.
The "double-double" is a uniquely Canadian term that is strongly associated with Tim Hortons. It consists of a cup of drip coffee with two creams and two sugars (or double cream, double sugar). The Double-Double coffee will taste exactly the same in any cup size, from the small 10oz cup to the extra large 24oz cup. The chain achieves flavor consistency across cup sizes by employing a pair of countertop vending machines, one dispensing cream and the other dispensing sugar, with a button for each of the four cup sizes. The name "double-double" refers to the number of shots of each added, that is, two shots of cream and two shots of sugar. The terms "single-single" or "regular" and "triple-triple", though not as common as the "double-double", refer to coffee with one shot of sugar and cream and coffee with three shots of sugar and cream, respectively. The machines are calibrated regularly to ensure they dispense a perfect shot of cream or sugar to exacting specifications. The coffee is always poured over the cream and sugar, important to achieve the correct flavor. It is brewed using the pour-over drip brewing method and the coffee maker used is manufactured by Bunn-o-Matic Corporation.
To make an espresso, shoot boiling water under high pressure through finely ground up coffee beans and then pour into a tiny mug. Sounds simple right? Well, it’s surprisingly difficult to master. Espressos are the purest coffee experience you can get, and while they’re not for everyone, it can be a truly singular drinking experience when you find a good brew.
As usual, an excellent and well-argued article. I spent 20 years making coffee I didn’t like and putting milk in it to turn it into coffee I did like (I kicked the sugar habit over 25 years ago, realising it was seriously bad for my health). It’s only in the last few years, and through writing the Coffee Spot , that I’ve discovered that I can make coffee I like without having to put anything in it.
So, how if you feel bored with the original black coffee? If you really want add something to your coffee, you can add the low calorie sweetener and low fat milk. You can also add soya milk instead of fatty dairy milk. In addition, you better choose the light or medium roasted coffee bean, since the dark roasted coffee bean may not give enough substance needed to burn fats. The chlorogenic acid may damage during the heating process of dark roasted beans.

Espresso is very strong black coffee that is drank from a small cup. The best kinds of coffee blends for espresso creation are the dark roast aromatic beans from Latin America, although this is still subject for debate among coffee lovers. Espresso is created by subjecting the beans to high-pressure steam treatment. The characteristic feature of espresso is the creamy foam on the top and the strong aroma. Espresso is meant as a pick-me-up drink rather than for leisurely drinking.

It is important that you use medium to fine ground coffee when making black coffee using this method. This type of pot allows you to make a full flavored coffee. As it is made from borosilicate glass you can pour hot water directly into it, however at no time should it be allowed to stand directly on a heat source. You will often find that they come in 3 sizes, 3 cup, 8 cup and 12 cup.

Thank you for the article! I am not a sugar girl, but I usually add at least a tbsp of almond creamer(has some sugar in it)… I have always liked creamy coffee.. I used to drink dairy cream with added sugar too and I got myself used to cutting that down.. Today was my first try at black coffee, because I was starting a 3 day cleanse & cant have the additives.. To my surprise I have taken it very well! I thought I would make faces or turn my nose up! But it’s not bad! I will be on the lookout for a coffee with notes I might enjoy! thanks again!!
The SCAA recommends that a home coffeemaker's brewing water reach the ideal temperature to properly whip up a tasty cup. Specifically, the association says a machine's brew temp should hit 197.6 degrees Fahrenheit within the first minute brewing and not exceed 204.8 degrees. Also crucial is for a coffeemaker to expose its grounds to water between 4 and 8 minutes.
The two most Kiwi coffees available are the long black and the flat white – as both originated in New Zealand and Australia. For a flat white, the steamed milk from the bottom of the jug (which is usually not so frothy, but rather creamy) is poured over a shot of espresso. It is now popular among mums and dads at school fetes who are desperately trying to stay awake.

I’m a bit of a coffee aficionado myself. I used to drink my coffee black but then got pregnant with The Stinky, and I couldn’t handle it black anymore. I’m also a fellow Paleo and I LOVE coconut milk (from the can) in my coffee, with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a drop of vanilla extract. It tastes like my beloved Vanilla lattes and you eventually trick yourself into thinking you’re drinking sugar. I call it a “Summer Latte”. You should try it sometime.
