While the health benefits of coffee are still a debated topic; it is a generally accepted fact that a cup of black coffee is an insignificant calorie contribution. It isn’t a diet buster. Adding cream or sugar (the verdict is already in on how bad sugar is for you by-the-way) to your coffee takes a neutral (possibly healthy) drink and turns it into something with calories and thus something that should be evaluated. Drinking two to three cups of black coffee a day is not usually considered to be a problem, however, drinking two to three cups of a milky, sugary coffee drink a day is a habit most would consider unhealthy.
Drip-brewed, or filtered, coffee is brewed by hot water passing slowly over roasted, ground coffee beans contained in a filter. Water seeps through the ground coffee, absorbing its oils, flavours and essences, solely under gravity, then passes through the bottom of the filter. The used coffee grounds are retained in the filter with the liquid falling (dripping) into a collecting vessel such as a carafe or pot. Paper coffee filters were invented in Germany by Melitta Bentz in 1908. To reduce waste, some coffee drinkers use fine wire mesh filters, which can be re-used for years. Many countries in Latin America and Africa traditionally prepare drip coffee using a small reusable bag made of cotton or other cloth.

If the coffee is left to boil longer, less foam remains. In Turkey, four degrees of sweetness are used. The Turkish terms and approximate amounts are as follows: sade (plain; no sugar), az şekerli (little sugar; half a level teaspoon of sugar), orta şekerli (medium sugar; one level teaspoon), çok şekerli (a lot of sugar). Before boiling, the coffee and the desired amount of sugar are stirred until all coffee sinks and the sugar is dissolved.
Thank you for the article! I am not a sugar girl, but I usually add at least a tbsp of almond creamer(has some sugar in it)… I have always liked creamy coffee.. I used to drink dairy cream with added sugar too and I got myself used to cutting that down.. Today was my first try at black coffee, because I was starting a 3 day cleanse & cant have the additives.. To my surprise I have taken it very well! I thought I would make faces or turn my nose up! But it’s not bad! I will be on the lookout for a coffee with notes I might enjoy! thanks again!!

Generally the best type of coffee to use in order to make a great tasting cup of black coffee is that which has been freshly ground. The reason why freshly ground is better is because after a couple of days ground coffee generally begins to lose its taste. Also if you are going to make coffee on your stove top then only keep it on there for a few minutes as any longer and the coffee will lose some of its taste and in some cases will become bitter. So it is better if you serve the coffee as soon as you have made it. Also you should use about 2 tablespoons of ground coffee for every cup that you make expect in the case of espresso. If making an espresso it is best to follow the guidelines that your espresso machine will have.
It probably took a month (possibly longer) for me to even be able to tolerate black coffee. I would make a face every single sip I took, but after time, I acquired a taste for it, and now I enjoy it. I look forward to my morning brew as I once did with all the additives. Not saying once in a blue moon I won’t add a little something, but that is usually if I brew a cup in the early evening just for the comfort, but that is few and far in between anymore.

A 28-year study, eventually published in 2017 in Alzheimer's and Dementia, the journal of the Alzheimer's Association, determined that four to five cups of a coffee a day – a level deemed "moderate" – led to a decreased risk of dementia during that time period. Those who drank coffee in moderate levels had less medial temporal atrophy, which is linked to Alzheimer's disease, compared to those who drank three or fewer cups a day, including those who didn't drink any.
